Hello Everyone I Am Sarah!

Hello website patrons, potential employers and like-minded peers, my name is Sarah Berkman. I am a Persian Illustrator and Graphic Designer originally from Topanga California. My work is abstract, maximalist, color-centric and shape oriented. I work with cartoonized, graphic, bold imagery with finer details that are thoughtful, deliberate and saturated in line work. I love exploring imaginary settings and how fictional ideology can play out in the real or every day, capitalizing on warped environments and a dynamic compositional landscape that versifies two-dimensional space and the idea of the internal self. My process is in a constant dichotomy between simplicity and complexity, working with compositions that have different levels of density while keeping in mind refinement and balance. Using the opposing forces of symmetry and randomness, grid style layouts and proportions inform my work, allowing for image making that feels curated and consistent, packed with both abstracted and representational details. The result is contemporary and modern design that focuses on inviting, eye-popping imagery and visual solutions with subtle undertones that allude to my interests, experiences and subconscious self amidst an urban, digital era. A writer at heart, I also have an affinity for writing and creative analysis, being able to articulate my thought process just as easily as I can draw it. Wanting to infiltrate several areas of the art world, I believe my artwork can be curated towards an applied and studio space, opening myself up to a plethora of work and opportunities. Editorial Design, Cover Art & Poster Design, Advertising Design, Contemporary Illustration & Abstraction, Branding & Logo Design, Surface Design, Cartoonism, Animation and Color Theory are my areas of professional focus with an aspiration to become a Freelance Illustrator and Exhibition Artist.
