Digital Booklet: Obeying The Type Rules

The project brief was to create an eight-page booklet that included a cover page, table of contents and epilogue regarding type rules and fundamentals. Incorporating type and illustration assets was key to personalizing and setting the tone for this booklet. Thematic inspiration enabled my designs to vary and cross over into multiple facets of this project, making the overall layout interesting, fun, bold and consistent. Using illustration as primary and accent elements and aligning all elements of the page to one another was a task met and executed during this design process. Challenges involved enabling the communication elements in a way that didn’t dwarf in comparison to my illustration. Scaling down imagery, focusing on smaller interludes of imagery and prioritizing type made each page have optimal negative space and breathing room. This ensured the typography wasn’t crammed, illegible or secondary compared to the illustrations. This design combined hand-drawn elements done on Procreate, which were then converted in Adobe Illustrator. Using Adobe InDesign, I constructed a seamlessly consistent layout where I was able to place my design elements, creating the finished product below.
