Koi Pond Reference Study

The project brief was to create a reference study out of the koi pond pictured. Focus was on the atmosphere of the water as opposed to the surrounding fountain in order to ignite a sense of mysticism and composure within the artwork’s setting. Created with number sequences, abstraction and image as it relates to the referenced material, the work is a representation of the moment captured in a way that was complex and exacting. Using the number of ripples and sea life in the koi pond, the concept transcended into a sense of sequentialism brought on by the time the photo was taken & the time the project was given mirrored by the tiles in the photo echoed throughout the artwork. Transition as it progresses, perseveres and cycles much like the koi fish, the fountain and the seasons radiate in the work’s repetition of shape, line quality and overall image. The result is a landscape that feels cohesive with movement ushered in by the rippling water, the cause and effect which rules the laws of life and the foundation of the artwork.
