Political Art: Woman Life Freedom Iran

A continuous art series centered around the circumstances in Iran as it pertains to the September killing of Mahsa Amini and the protests, riots, arrests, assaults, murders and executions that ensued afterward. Each artwork reflects the passion & temperament of Iranian people when faced with violence at every turn made with peace. The works symbolize homeland, perseverance, strength and leadership depicted by the lion who is unrequited with majesty, greatness and power. The match which is lit is a testament to an undying light, resilience & fire which represents the people in Iran who face persecution with the brilliance beauty & grace of a flame. Women are depicted most visually in the works as a way to signal the unjustified sanctions placed on women in Iran and the presence they must occupy at this moment to facilitate change & awareness. As a Persian-Iranian American and first-generation college graduate it was that much more important to advocate awareness for Iran and bring the spirit of Iran to life through my artwork. To have the privilege to draw on this subject gave the work a life that surpasses making a living or completing a commission. It gave purpose to my artistry & voice as a creator to visualize a subject matter so important to my family in a way that felt so authentic, pure & relevant to me as an artist.
