The Zebra & Lion Web Banner Display Image

The project brief was to create an image-only web banner that represented a personal stake in identity, symbolism and sense of setting. Elements from both home life and internal life are represented. The back and front yard give way to place, where things start and end while the middle houses other details that give reference to day-to-day or what holds place. The Hibiscus flower represents dream and paradise, accented by a dress mixed with references from life and media, a local boutique and Cat In The Hat. The socks are a real representation of ones admired and owned from a store in Universal Studios, further giving way to the nostalgia and symbolism put on each element. Socks, shoes, a dress and a flower coincide with a formality that mixed with the palette of the work feels splendorous and playful. Paired with the remote and surrounding scene there is a sense of discovery amidst a personal landscape, evident in the figure’s face towards the bottom of the right frame.

Identity, much like this piece is an amalgamation of the beauty brought on by the human condition and personal setting. The framework of your inner self, represented by the color and tone of the abstract elements encasing the rest of the piece. Layers that comprise identity are showcased in this work not only by the subject with a varied expression but throughout the gradient used by applying flat color. Also representing layers is the zebra and lion head center of the image, contrasting ideations that create the summation of who you are. Red in the piece is placed with purpose, the red ball to signal height, how far you can go or high you can reach. Echoing the same sentiment is the red door in the sky and alien ship beside it, opportunity and passions that can be found if you open yourself to them, adventures that life can hold if you don’t bar yourself from them, evident by the stripes containing the figure.
